Primark Scented Candles

Hello lovelies! I've been so busy recently i've kind of neglected my blog. Not entirely but i still feel a bit bad, with this being said i'm really sad that i've missed that last few #bbloggers chats so this week i'm hoping now everything has calmed down a bit i can get back into the swing of everything again.

Tiny bit different to my normal posts but i wanted to share these with you as i know everyone loves candles and even more so cheap candles! In the week i was browsing town with my younger brother and decided to give the Primark home section a little browse, for some reason i haven't before and i have no idea why, some of the stuff they have is amazing! Now i might be completely late to the party here but my local Primark has only just got itself a home section so don't think that i'm a complete introvert and haven't left the house for 12 months. Some of the stuff was a bit 'meh' and tacky but aout 70% of what i saw was really nice, i was so shocked. Although i did get a tiny bit annoyed a lot of the stuff didn't match my bedroom colour scheme but i struggle with that most places.

When it comes to candles i can get really picky and that's usually down to price, size and scent. Of course there would be nothing better than being able to stick Yankee candles all around my bedroom but that is really not feasible at all (for me anyway). I usually pick up a ton in Ikea the very few times i actually make the trip and they have lasted me quite a while but with the nearest Ikea being 40 odd miles away and my candles running out i was in desperate need of some new ones.

That's when i came across Primark candles! There was only a choice of three better described as pink, green, and white. Luckily for me the white which is a 'Coconut Milk & Mango' scent matched my room decor perfectly and at the tune of £2 per candle i thought that was an absolute bargain! I ended up leaving with two of the jars (as pictured) and also a pillar candle which was the same price but i do want to pop back in to get the tinned candles which was really pretty and can replace the ones on my dressing table when they're out.

This may not be news to many people at all as where i live is quite slow with everything (we have one Starbucks in a service station) so i was really excited with my discovery and at a bargain price. I also picked up this really cute wicker heart to hang up on the wall above my bed for £1.50 so i'm really happy about that too!

Have you ventured through the Primark home section? What do you make of them branching out into other departments? If you know of any other finds please let me know! I'm forever looking for nicknack's to go around my room.

NYX Buys from Beauty UK

Yesterday myself, Frankie and Seany woke up nice and early to make the journey to Beauty UK. For those of you who aren't aware what that is, it's a giant beauty convention for people in the beauty trade. It's the best place to go to discover new products and stock up on all your needs at cheaper prices!
For me it was more about getting my hands on products i love and also a few bits and bobs i'd usually get from drugstores.
One of the brands i was most excited about seeing at the event was NYX Cosmetics, although it's available for us to buy online i'm not too fond of the fact it's so much more expensive than US prices. At Beauty UK NYX was discounted so i took this opportunity to pick up a couple things that i've had my eye on for a while.

The items i grabbed were the eye shadow base in 'white' and the 'Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer' jar in light. Both of these would usually cost £5.00 but i got them for £3.50 each. So i made a happy saving here.

Next on my list of items to buy was the HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder which is priced normally at£8.50 but i picked this little gem up for £6.50. I'm still yet to try this out so expect a review some time in the near future! I've had my eyes on this for a while so i'm super excited to try it out.

Another product that i'm sure you're all aware of is the Jumbo Eye Pencils, these are a staple product for NYX and i've been dying to get my mits on them for quite a while. I'm not too crazy with my make up so i went for the neutral shades Black Bean, Yogurt and Cottage Cheese. Usually £4.50 i picked these up for £3.50, not a massive saving but it's still a saving.

Last on my wishlist was the NYX slim eye pencils that are predominantly eyeliners but also double up as eyebrow pencils. I'm constantly fighting a battle with eyeliners i can never find one that suits my eyeliner needs in regards to being too soft or too hard. So i thought after reading a few posts about these i'd give them a whirl! Normally £3.50 but i got them for £3.00 which is an nice price for me!

So overall not a huge haul but i did spend £30.00 which in a way is a lot to spend at once but i know if i'd walked into any branded make up store i'd of spend a lot more!

Have you tried NYX Cosmetics? What do you think of the prices?

Craft Series: Alternative Use of a Shot Glass

A while ago i was asked to do a blog post on any alternative way i can think to use a shot glass. I was intrigued to try this because i love a challenge and the idea i had in mind would be perfect. Today i'm going to show you my (god awful) attempt at making candles using personalised shot glasses from giftsonline4u.
I was supplied with two shotglasses engraved with what i wanted and i went for the cheesy "home sweet home" due to the fact i was attempting to make candles. Don't judge me!

I'll attach a video at the end just in case you're not 100% sure about my post - i'm not too confident myself to be honest.

The way i did this was with six tea lights, the ones i used were from B&M bargains and smell like blueberries (yum) and then i just popped them out of their metal containers and then placed them into a bowl. I then filled a saucepain with water at just under half and let it boil. Constantly keeping this on a low temperature meant that i didn't have stand there and watch it melt and also it was a lot safer and i had no over spill from the water.
Once the wax had melted i took out the wicks (carefully) and popped them onto paper towel. Make sure you remember that wax is a pain in the arse to get off most surfaces. Once the wicks were removed i attempted to pour the melted wax as mess free as possible into the shot glasses. This wasn't really working to well because i should i took the size of the bowl and the shot glasses into consideration but there wasn't too much mess so yay!

See what i mean about messy? I waited for the wax to somewhat set and then popped in the wicks from tea lights. *here's where i messed up* The wicks i used were already cut down and suitable for the tealights. What i didn't think about was that i would need wicks long enough for the shot glasses *duh* so next time round i'm ready to go!

Here's my finished result! Not as great as i had hoped but with some more care and attention people could come up with some pretty amazing designs. I'm really looking forward to trying this again with the right tools and possibly cutting downt he amount i spend on candles as you can use the leftover wax from used candles and random tea lights. I really like the idea of using shot glasses because they look different and even more so that you can have them engraved so these would be the perfect gift idea for someone but with a crafty twist!

If you would like to read in more detail how to do this Giftsonline4u have an amazing tutorial here but just don't try outsmart it like me!

They've also created a video on how to create mini desserts using the shot glasses here which is also a great idea!
